The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine congratulates the professor of our department, Nataliia Kussul, on receiving the honorary GEO Individual Excellence Award 2021 of the intergovernmental organization Group of Earth Observation for outstanding personal contribution to the activities of this organization.
Nataliia, as the representative of Ukraine in the High Level Working Group of the European Regional Center EuroGEO, made efforts to transfer Ukraine to the European Regional Sector from the post-Soviet, as well as to include Ukraine in the European Research Area in the field of Earth observation from space.
The scientist is actively involved in the flagship project of the intergovernmental group GEO GEOGLAM, aimed at creating methods and technologies of satellite agromonitoring based on intelligent calculations, Ukraine coordinates projects under the EU FP-7 and Horizon 2020, which are European contributions to the GEO work plan. in particular, the world-renowned SIGMA, ERA-Planet and e-shape projects.
Under the leadership of the Ukrainian scientist, a deep learning methodology for geospatial data was developed, a number of works in international cooperation in the interests of implementing the latest satellite technologies in solving sustainable development problems and creating an international system of Earth observation systems GEOSS and received grants for cloud computing monitoring within the public-private partnership GEO-Amazon and GEO-Google Earth Engine.
