During the meeting, participants discussed the role of satellite technologies in agricultural monitoring, food security, and assessing the impact of conflicts and climate change on food production. They explored the potential of satellite data for evaluating crop yields and agricultural changes, as well as the effects of the war in Ukraine on the agricultural sector. Special attention was given to assessing temporarily unused lands due to hostilities or occupation. The discussion also covered the role of AI and machine learning in satellite monitoring and the growing global challenges of food security caused by climate change. An important topic was the assessment of agricultural losses in Ukraine. NASA Harvest, in collaboration with Ukrainian partners, is using satellite data to determine the actual scale of damage and build an evidence base for international legal proceedings.
