ACRONYM: DT4LC
Title : Developing Scalable Digital Twin Models for Land Cover Change Detection Using Machine Learning
Instrument (Call): Ukrainian-Swiss Joint Research Projects: Call for Proposals 2023, National Research Foundation of Ukraine
Duration: 3 years (2025 – 2028)
Project ID: 2023.01/0040
PI: Prof. Andrii Shelevtov
Abstract: Global climate change and war are causing significant changes in land use. A key solution for supporting Ukraine’s post-war recovery strategies and Switzerland’s climate change adaptation are digital twins (DT), which are currently rapidly developing in the world. However, there is no unified presentation of data, universal models for different territories, conditions and uncertainties in digital twin projects, and low awareness of stakeholders about the use of DT.
The goal of DT4LC is to develop scalable DTs that will combine satellite data and artificial intelligence (deep neural networks and PINN) to detect complex land cover changes based on harmonized data and Open Data Cube cloud technologies.
The result will be unified data sets, improved machine learning methods, pilot DT simulations, publications, training programs. Stakeholders will receive a world-class product to support decision-making in post-war Ukraine recovery planning.
