Hanna Yailymova spoke at the interregional environmental forum «Waste Management. Challenges and Solutions» with the presentation of the project «Detection and Monitoring of Waste Landfills», which is being worked on by the staff of the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Data Analysis.
The forum was organized by the Donetsk Regional State Administration together with the Donetsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry within the framework of the UN Program for the Restoration and Peacebuilding with the financial support of the governments of Denmark, Switzerland and Sweden. It aims to review best practices in waste management in the communities of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
The methodology of our monitoring is to use and combine different neural network classification algorithms for satellite data, which allows us to track historical landfills and analyze their changes over time.
