On May 23-24, 2024, the starting meeting of the participants of the U_CAN project: Ukraine on the road to carbon neutrality was held in the city of Dresden, which was attended by professor of our department Andrii Shelestov and master’s student Sofia Drozd.
Professor Shelestov introduced the scientific team of our department to the project partners, shared valuable experience and achievements in the field of machine learning and satellite intelligence. He focused on the developments we created relevant to the project, including the Urban Atlas for monitoring changes in the city of Kyiv and methods for monitoring air quality in the capital. Professor Shelestov also presented our study on the assessment of the suitability of the territory of Ukraine for the installation of solar power plants. It is important to note that this study, conducted with the active participation of Sofia Drozd, became one of the key components in work package 3 of the U_CAN project.
We would like to remind you that the U_CAN project, financed by the Horizon Europe program, is aimed at supporting Ukraine in achieving climate neutrality goals and implementing smart city strategies. The project unites 20 partners from Ukraine and Europe and will last until 2028.
We are proud that our Earth Intelligence models will provide the scientific basis for the development of this project, and we look forward to the new achievements of this initiative.
