Results of the German-Ukrainian DAAD project “DigiJED-2: Digital Education with Joined Efforts” 2022 and development in 2023

The main goal of the DijiJED educational project is to support the educational process at Ukrainian universities under martial law. The project envisages the creation of a concept of collaborative digital learning in the field of information and communication technologies.

The educational project involves students of the 3-4th year of bachelor’s and 1st year of master’s degree, as well as Ukrainian teachers, some of whom already work at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences or teach from Ukraine, as well as teachers from Germany and North Macedonia.
The main feature of the training is that the training modules include not only classical lectures through the Zoom platform, but also laboratory experiments.

Teachers of our department – Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Nataliia Kussul, Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Andrii Shelestov, Doctor of Philosophy Hanna Yaylymova – participate in the project from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. In the 1st semester, students studied the following courses within the program: “Operating Systems”, “Distributed Systems”, “Data Analysis”, “Cloud computing”, “Machine Learning” and others.

Professor Shelestov A.Y. taught a course on cloud technologies, namely: general concepts and infrastructure of cloud computing, familiarization and study of modern cloud platforms (in particular Amazon Web Services – AWS, Google Earth Engine – GEE, etc.), acquisition of skills in implementing Data Science methods in these platforms. Overview of Amazon Web Services (general concepts, infrastructure). Computing services (Elastic Compute, LightSail) and networking technologies. Data storage (Elastic Block Store, Simple Storage Service). Amazon Web Services and databases (Amazon RDS, Redshift, Athena, DynamoDB). Amazon services as part of a modern data warehouse, etc.

As a result of the training, students participating in the project received certificates.

In the second semester, continuation of the Cloud Data Processing Technologies course is planned. Additionally, students will be introduced to the fundamental methods and technologies of machine learning as part of the “Machine Learning” course, which will be taught by Dr. Hanna Yailymova, a PhD and senior lecturer in the department. Students will study the programming of neural network algorithms, taking into account current trends in the development of this field in the era of digitalization and Industry 4.0.

In addition, other lecturers and professors will offer their courses. The courses Data Analysis, Distributed Systems & Network Programming, Operating Systems, Creating Mobile apps with Android, Machine Learning with Python will be taught by colleagues from other universities in Ukraine and abroad. More information about the project is available here.

Upon successful completion of the program, students participating in the project will receive certificates that can be credited as the result of non-formal education in the study of certain disciplines of the educational program.
