The final day of the International Summer Scientific Professional School in the field of “Data Analysis”

On July 28, 2022, there was a final meeting of students with teachers and mentors at the three-week summer school “International Scientific Summer School on Data Analysis” (Order No. 216.2022 dated 11.07.22 on the holding of the International Scientific Summer School in the direction of “Data Analysis »), where students presented their own work and results. Almost all participants of the school successfully coped with the development of their own projects and received certificates of successful completion of the school as confirmation of the acquired knowledge.

In total, 4 teams presented their projects on monitoring land cover changes and 1 team that worked on a much more difficult task – monitoring projectile eruptions in a war zone, and 22 school participants were awarded certificates.

This year’s course was devoted to war damage analysis, which enabled students to learn new skills within the framework of current tasks. During the summer school, students created their own geospatial data set to build a land cover map, applied the Random Forest machine learning algorithm to satellite data in the Google Earth Engine cloud platform, and obtained maps for several years, which made it possible to analyze changes in different types of land cover from over time.

The organizers of the school are the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Data Analysis of Educational and Research Institute of Physics and Technology NTUU “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, University of Maryland (USA), Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Germany), in cooperation with representatives of the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy“. The participants of the school are students of these universities, technical university Blekinge Tekniska Högskola (Sweden), as well as students of leading Kyiv lyceums, in particular Lyceum “Leader” and Technical Lyceum of NTUU “KPI”. The summer school is one of the steps in the creation of the Ukrainian-German center of key competences AIDA&TI, which is being created on the basis of Institute of Physics and Technology NTUU “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Germany).
